You are Loved

Gone are the days when one knew their neighbors, and what was happening in their lives. Gone are the days when students made wishing cards out of paper and passed them on to their friends. Gone are the days when a person would visit a friend or neighbor just to have a conversation.

Human beings are extremely adaptable and have changed with time. Yet, at our core, we remain the same. You and I are social butterflies and we crave community, time, and affirmation.

Messenger, WhatsApp, telegram, and many other messaging app platforms have taken over the pleasure of face-to-face conversations and handwritten letters. Call me old school, but I still choose to have an intimate talk with a friend, in person, over food that both of us enjoy. I still prefer to make a DIY card on birthdays and other celebrations. Having said that, social media platforms do have their perks. The advancement in technology now provides us with the luxury of global connections. A person can see their loved ones and listen to their voices irrespective of space and time. Even with these privileges, one can feel lonely, lost in the midst of all the notifications that are bombarding him or her.

The long lockdown nights have taught me how much I desire to connect with other human beings. I regret many a silent night just because I wanted another to message me first. Is pride stopping us from living life to its fullest potential? Is it keeping us away from having intentional communication with our loved ones? Is it hindering us from building healthy relationships?

Love your neighbors as yourself ( Mat 22:39 NIV ). We are indeed to do unto others what we want them to do to us. So today, let nothing obstruct you from showing love to someone who might be feeling the way you are. Pick up your phone and open that messaging app. Yes-yes, I am that same person who just suggested that nothing beats an in-person talk, but hey, we also have to use what is in our grasp.  So right now you have that 5-inch device in your hand with all those social media apps, so why not send simple messages to your contacts like: “Just dropping by to say hey” or “Long time, no see no talk” or simply “knock-knock”.  You will be surprised to find out how much it means to them; they are lonely too, just like you, and need to feel loved. In the process, you will also be surprised to find out just how much you are loved!

Jesus loves you and so do I.
